Section 55 of the Act stipulates that Council shall consist of seven (7) members of whom: (a) Two (2) shall be appointed by the Minister; and (b) Five (5) shall be elected by the environmental health practitioners in the manner prescribed by the Council. Of the persons elected:

• One (1) shall be a registered meat and other foods inspector
• Two (2) shall be registered environmental health officers, one of whom shall be employed by a local authority
• Two (2) shall be environmental health technicians, one of whom shall be employed by a local authority.
